The group Audio Playground is the collaboration of Canadian producers Rubix & DRC and singer Anthony Gitto. The group came together in June of 2009 and immediately burned up the music and dance floor charts with its first single “(A Little) Respect”, a remake of the new-wave hit by Britishsynthpop duo Erasure.
The single topped the Canadian pop charts for six weeks over other artist such as Lady Gaga, Madonna, The Black Eye Peas, and U2. The song was so popular it did something that single rarely do; drop down and then go up to number one again.
In the beginning, Audio Playground was supposed to be just a dance music project, but the band’s success made itself a crossover sensation.
Their second single “Shadows”. as with their first single will have seven different versions of the song.
In order to ensure the singles’ success, the group lined up several of the worlds top remix artist to generate a broad array of sounds for “Shadows” for different audiences. Versions by Digital Dog and Bimbo Jones from the U.K. and Tracy Young & Mike Rizzo from the U.S. are featured alongside Latin influenced rhythms by initial collaborators Berrios, Douglas and Taylor-Weber.
According to Gitto, Shadows was supposed to be the groups first single to be released, but due to the success of “Respect”, the release of “Shadows” was pushed back to August 10th for its North American release and Sept 4th for the world wide release.
Look for Audio Playground to release its first album soon.
