When Erykah Badu makes a come back, she makes a come back. It’s been two years since we heard from the sultry neo song singer, but when she came out with the follow up to her 2008 album New Amerkahy Part One with Part 2, Ms. Badu cause a lot of controversy with her video for her single “Widow Seat.”
Badu stripped down in Dealey Plaza in Dallas, Texas the site where John F. Kennedy was assassinated. Badu would later explain on her Twitter feed that "it was shot guerrilla style, no crew, 1 take, no closed set, no warning, 2 min., Downtown Dallas, then ran like hell."
Badu said she meant no disrespect to Kennedy or the city of Dallas she was just protesting “groupthink” and she had “no regrets” in doing what she did. Badu has always had her own style and doing her own thing which is why she is still one of the most popular artist out there.
In her new album NEW AMERYKAH PART TWO, two themes still reign in Badu’s songs: Love and Relationships. Songs like “Out My Mind Just In Time,” and “You Can’t Turn Me Away,” stresses that love and relationship thang that she like the rest of us still struggle with these days.
Badu’s signature style and classic wit are also evident on the album as well with singles like “Turn Me Away (Get MuNNY),” in which Badu waxes poetic about the power of the almighty dollar while paying homage to the classic Junior M.A.F.I.A. hit “Get Money” and “I Can” is a song with a woman’s empowerment theme.
For anyone who loves classic Badu, this album doesn’t disappoint.
