(AP) - A Shelby County doctor has been sentenced to almost 22 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to illegally issuing prescriptions for oxycodone, Lortab and Xanax.
According to a news release from the United States Attorney's Office for the Western District of Tennessee, 58-year-old Daniel Fearnow was sentenced Thursday for writing prescriptions for controlled subtances with no legitimate medical purpose.
Prosecutors said Fearnow distributed more than 25,000 illegal prescriptions for controlled substances. More than 500 prescriptions were for the highly addictive drug Oxycontin.
According to prosecutors, Fearnow knowingly sold illegal prescriptions to drug dealers, who then sold the prescriptions or the drugs to other people.
