(WABC) -- A woman from Canada is facing a string of theft charges after pretending to have terminal cancer.
In January 2009, Ashley Kirilow began telling friends and family she had cancer.
She even shaved her hair and eyebrows to give the appearance that she was undergoing chemotherapy.
Last fall, she started a Facebook page called "Change for a Cure" to raise money supposedly for cancer research.
Her father recently confronted her, and she confessed and turned herself into police.
In an exclusive interview with ABC News, her father spoke about the hoax.
"Well when Ashley stopped answering my phone calls, we did a little bit of investigating on our own and found out that she was not being treated for cancer at the hospital that she claimed to be treated at," Mike Kirilow said.
The 23-year-old solicited thousands of dollars from donors.
Outraged donors are now leaving scathing messages about Ashley on Facebook and the potential harm she's caused for cancer patients who really need donations.
