If you tried to log in onto your twitter or FaceBook account this morning you were probably surprised to see that on twitter wasn't possible and on FaceBook slowness and occasional outages rendered the site mostly inoperable. Twitter's status page http://status.twitter.com/ confirmed that this was due to a denial of service attack. This turn out to big an even bigger issue as FaceBook reported problems later in the day.
