Twitter and Facebook down due to Hackers

If you tried to log in onto your twitter or FaceBook account this morning you were probably surprised to see that on twitter wasn't possible and on FaceBook slowness and occasional outages rendered the site mostly inoperable. Twitter's status page http://status.twitter.com/ confirmed that this was due to a denial of service attack. This turn out to big an even bigger issue as FaceBook reported problems later in the day. This shows that even large site are venerable to attacks by malicious hackers

Technology business analyst Shelly Palmer told AP Radio that denial-of-service attacks are a reality of the information age.

"People tend to want to take sites that are very public and go after them," said Palmer, managing director of Advanced Media Ventures Group. "In fact you'd be surprised how many sites for major companies are really attacked on a daily basis. This is a crime, it's a real crime and it should be treated that way."

If you plan to have a big site that has a ton of exposure then you should make sure that you are not venerable to these types of attacks although these attacks are just a part of the technology age, there are measures that you can take in order to make sure you’re not going to be prevented from providing your services.
