Warrant issued for Lil Wayne in Arizona case

AP: YUMA, Ariz. — A bench warrant was issued Tuesday for Grammy Award-winning rapper Lil Wayne, who is facing drug and weapons charges in Arizona. A Yuma County Superior Court judge issued the warrant after the entertainer, whose real name is Dwayne Carter, failed to appear in court for a final trial management conference.

Ny News: No one is more disappointed that Lil Wayne is jailed on gun charges than the cop who saved the rapper's life 15 years ago after an accidental shot to the chest.

"It's sad to see somebody get involved with guns like that - any kid, no matter who they are," said Robert Hoobler, a New Orleans Police Department cop for two decades.

Lil Wayne, Finally, Being Sentenced Today

Lil Wayne has been sentenced to a year in jail after pleading guilty in a New York City gun case.

The Grammy Award-winning rapper was taken away in handcuffs to start serving his term immediately after his sentencing.

He pleaded guilty in October to attempted criminal possession of a weapon and admitted having a loaded gun on his tour bus in 2007.

Lil Wayne heads to jail on Tuesday

Rapper Lil Wayne will go directly to jail after he is sentenced by a Manhattan judge Tuesday afternoon for a gun conviction, according to a person familiar with the case. Dwayne Carter, as he is known legally, pleaded guilty to felony gun charges in a deal with prosecutors October 2009. He is expected to get a one-year prison sentence.
