Powerful and Compact Notebook: GPD Pocket Review

It might not be the cheapest device you can find on the market, but the GPD Pocket has a lot to offer, in particular specs and designs you are looking for of its caliber.

Over the years, the computing world has been all about innovation and designs which are all ultra-mobile PCs or UMPCs. While there have been impressive outputs and this kind of device has been on the market for several years, this type of technology remains to cater for only a handful of users.

The tiny computers have small screens but have also compromised a lot of specifications like low resolution, low quality, and processors that run hot and are power hungry. These small PCs have been quite forgotten when technology developed tablet PCs and smartphones to fulfill what it primarily is meant for.

However, there is a relatively unknown and unheard-of Chinese company that is trying to change modern technology with their GPD Pocket mini PC. It is a Windows-based gaming device with 5.5-inch screen, along with Ubuntu support. The mini gaming machine was first launched in Indiegogo, where it hit about 1, 516 percent of its target.

Impressive Performance

Powerful and Compact Notebook: GPD Pocket Review

While this Pocket device has an Intel Atom processor which is not that impressive at first glance, it is worth noting that the Z8750 it is equipped with is a quad core. It is a 64-bit CPU that belongs to the Cherry Trail family which already proved to be impressively capable.

The amount of memory and storage also helps the GPD Pocket mini PC’s performance. More than that, it also boasts the balance between capability and efficiency especially with its 12 hours of battery life.

The display of the GPD Pocket is also one of the device’s highlights with its 16:10 aspect ratio. The 7-inch screen is packed with around 323 pixels per inch with a responsive multi-touch feature. Overall, the screen is impressively sharp.

Responsive Keys

Since this device has an unconventional size for a PC, it is notable that it has limited space for the keyboard. The dimensions of some of the keys are a little unusual, and using the device might take some getting used to.

However, the keyboard size and design aside, the GPD mini computer surely packs some responsive keys. Even for some long hours of nonstop typing, it is still as efficient as the first time you use it. The keys are also great in feel, even more than when using MacBook.
