What’s Inside the Box

Eve V Review First-ever Crowdsourced Computer Gets Mixed Reactions

What comes in the box is the Eve V unit, kickstand, Bluetooth keyboard, 2.5-m USB-C cable for charging, charging dock, adapter pins, the N-Trig pen, poster, sticker, protective fabric, and setup guide.

Product Features and Technical Details

The Eve V computer has all the attributes of Microsoft’s Surface Pro and is more for less of the price. It is well-built with an aluminum Jet black casing that is slightly curvier than its competitor. The shiny finish does collect fingerprints quickly, but a simple cloth wipe can handle it.

It was designed heavier and bulkier than the Surface Pro to allow a larger battery. Some have criticized the extra weight, but by laptop standards, it is still quite light.

The keyboard is fully backlit and has Bluetooth connectivity. However, the backspace key is “infuriatingly” labeled with “oops!” and the track pad is too small for practical use, as per The Verge.

The pen has the same quality as that of the Surface Pro 3 and 4, which means Surface Pro 2017 is better when it comes to this feature. It is not a coincidence, though, that the new Surface Pen is also compatible with it.

Because the computer is crowd-developed, it boasts a lot of ports that satisfy the users. It even has a Thunderbolt 3 port, which is something the Surface Pro lacks. Its four USB ports are a huge win over its highly regarded competitor and make it more practical to have as a main unit.

Perhaps the best thing about the Eve V is its impressive 2880 x 1920 display, which is sharper than the new Surface Pro’s 2736 x 1824.

Its battery life is 12 hours, which is lower than the Surface Pro’s 13.5-hour span.

Pros

  • Excellent display
  • Comes with stylus pen
  • Well-built aluminum casing
  • Thunderbolt 3 option
  • Lower price than the leading brand

Cons

  • Heavier, bulkier than the leading brand
  • Lesser battery life than the leading brand
  • Weaker performance as compared to the leading brand

Conclusion

It expectedly does not beat the Surface Pro but is not far behind as well. Ultimately, the Eve V is a quality product and packs great value for its cost.
