Ressence Type 2 e-Crown Concept Hybrid Watch Unveiled

New York City, NY – Belgium-based watch manufacturer Ressence is bringing something new to the market soon –the hybrid watch Ressence Type 2 e-Crown Concept. It’s currently still a concept in work, but it’s already capturing the attention of many.

According to reports, the Ressence Type-2 is going to be a wristwatch that will offer the best of both worlds – traditional and modern. Nowadays, people have begun to prefer buying smartwatches because of the convenience that their modern features offer. This has slowly placed the traditional mechanical watches at the backseat. Though there are some smartwatch products that try to resemble the look of a mechanical watch, most of them still sacrifice the actual mechanical movement.

This particular quandary is the reason behind the idea of Ressence Type 2 e-Crown Concept. The Belgian brand wants to bring to the world a mechanical watch that can be paired and adjusted with a smartphone app. To make it possible, Ressence has tapped “tech coach” Tony Fadell, who is the founder of Nest and one of the lead designers of iPod.

Ressence will be introducing a new technology through the Type 2 watch. It’s the e-Crown technology, which is identified to be an electronic system that rests between the fully mechanical movement and the ROCS display disc system. This setup will permit the watch to self-adjust whenever the user enters a different time zone. It can also be set from a smartphone to make necessary changes.

Another feature that the e-Crown technology will bring to the Type 2 watch is that the time can be reset by just a simple tap on the crystal in case the power reserve of the watch goes low. This is meant to provide convenience for the user and avoid any hassles when resetting the watch.

The Ressence Type 2 e-Crown Concept will also be made with a unique intermediary mechanism power. It will be powered through kinetics and through 10 tiny photovoltaic cells that are concealed behind the dial. If the battery of the watch goes down below 50 percent, 10 little shutters will automatically open to expose the cells. It will then collect light for energy. Users can also opt to manually replenish energy through the smartphone app.

There is also a Daylight Savings time feature wherein the watch will automatically adjust. The Ressence Type 2 e-Crown Concept is only going to have the most basic of the smart features though. This means there will be no fitness tracking apps or notifications included.

As for the overall look of the watch, the Type 2 e-Crown Concept watch will have a diameter of 45 mm. Its case material will be made of titanium, which is also the dial’s color. Its strap or bracelet will be a gray nylon strap.

At the moment, further details regarding the Ressence Type 2 e-Crown Concept are still kept under wraps. It is still a prototype concept and may take a while before it makes its grand debut. But reports say that the watch company stated that production may start sometime in June. It’s also predicted to cost between $15,000 and $35,000.
