Amazon Fire HD 8 2018 Review

With large screens in smartphones and better processors, tables are nearly seeing its end. It makes no sense of investing lots of money for just a slightly larger screen unless it gives some specific reason to buy. Amazon has released its new tablet in the form of Amazon Fire HD 8 this year as a strong contender in the tablet world, and its best feature is the low price. So, let us see what this gadget has to offer to the world.

Design – Basic but Durable

The only notable thing about Amazon Fire HD 8 2018 is its vibrant color shades colors – Canary Yellow, Punch Red, Marine Blue, And Basic Black. Apart from that, it has the basic design of a table, nothing noteworthy.

It comes with an 8-inch screen and chunky bezels around it. Its back is made from plastic, and apart from the Amazon logo, the only thing on the back is the 2 MP rear camera. Even if it is made from plastic, this device is quite durable.

You shall find the headphone jack and the volume buttons on the left side of the tablet, while the power button and the charging port is on the right. This device also comes with a MicroSD slot that can be used to expand the memory up to 400 GB if the internal memory of 16 GB is not enough (and in most of the cases, it isn’t).

The stereo speakers of Fire HD 8 are placed on the left side that supports the Dolby Atmos. The bass isn’t enough, but are loud enough to enjoy a movie in a quiet room.

Display – Not Impressive

Amazon Fire HD 8

The Amazon Fire HD 8 comes with the same LCD screen with 1,280 x 800 resolution, which takes away your experience of viewing the full-HD quality sharp pictures. And especially in the era of 4K, the display really disappoints. In addition, the poor viewing angle makes it more difficult as you have to be directly in front of the tablet to see clearly.

The colors are a little muted, but the screen does light up in the sunlight when outdoors. But for the price it comes in, it justifies everything.

Great Battery but Low Performance

The hardware of this year’s launch is similar to the earlier models. It comes with a 1.3 GHz quad-core processor and 1.5 GB RAM, which is quite less for some of the today’s application to even run. This results in some lag while using the applications (even the ones from the Amazon like Prime Video and Bookstore).

But the battery life is really good when compared to other features. You can definitely run Netflix on this device for around 6-7 hours with some percent of battery to spare. This means you can use the battery longer just to browse the web or read a book. The only problem is that it does not have a quick charging mode, and so you have to wait for its big battery to get charged.

When you are buying an $80 tablet, you are surely not looking for a great camera option; however, if you are, then you will be disappointed with that.

So, to conclude this, Amazon Fire HD 8 2018 is a good buy but only if your budget is too low and you need to buy something under $100.
