Google Pixel 3 Review

With the launch of Pixel 2 last year, search giant Google came up with an ultra-premium smartphone segment to give giants like Apple and Samsung a run for their money.

The Google Pixel 3 is just the perfect smartphone for geeks and early adopters, with more than just a few handsome and powerful upgrades on Pixel 2. However, Pixel 3 is more than just about the hardware enhancement or a face-lift to how it looks since it has been rolled out with several user-friendly and productive features that really make a difference for the consumers.

Here’s a quick review of the all-new Google Pixel 3 that features a confluence of Google’s expertise in machine learning and artificial intelligence to create a concept phone with tremendous reliance on ultimate software experience, cloud, and the best-in-class camera.

Best-in-class camera:

The Google Pixel 3 is the premium camera phone that flaunts a 12.2MP, f/1.8 aperture single camera lens. So despite the megapixel count remaining the same, the pixels have got bigger at 1.4 microns, which means the pixels can gather more light, particularly in low-light conditions, to provide picture-perfect quality. The credit goes to Google’s HDR+ and cleaver software which mingles eight different exposures to deliver sharper and superior photos. Taking selfies has become easier and attractive than ever before.

Design and build quality:

The Pixel 3 comes with 5.5-inch display at a resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels with 18:9 aspect ratio. While Google has retained the two-tone rear panel as seen in the Pixel 2, the textured back has been replaced by a glass. At the rear, you will find a finger print scanner, a single camera setup, and a small G logo at the bottom.

The Pixel 3 sports an attractive aluminum frame between the two Gorilla Glass 5 panels. Pixel 3 also supports wireless charging, has IP68 water and dust resistance, and features an audio over USB Type-C instead of the 3.5mm jack.

Display:

Pixel 3 flaunts a little bigger display as compared to its ancestor (5.1-inch instead of 5.5-inch) however; it still retains the 2,160 x 1,080 resolution. The OLED panel is amazingly bright and sharp. The brightness is more than good, color reproduction is fantastic, and the viewing angles are great. HDR support is also available.

Performance:

Google Pixel 3 runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 and boats an essential 4GB of RAM along with 64GB or 128GB of onboard storage. The Pixel 3 can handle all basic tasks with no problem, whatsoever! Even the heavy and graphically demanding games such as Asphalt 9 will run easily, with no glitch.

Battery and software:

The 2,915mAh battery on Pixel 3 can last up to nine hours on regular use, which includes continual web browsing, and other activities as well as apps such as YouTube and Apple Music. The Pixel 3 also flaunts a new wireless charging feature and supports a USB Type-C fast 18W fast charging adapter. The Pixel 3 runs Android 9 Pie.

The bottom line:

Pixel 3 is undoubtedly Google’s flagship Android smartphone backed by AI, which is slick and fast, with camera and software taking center stage. The front-facing speakers are loud, the display looks good, and the battery is more than satisfactory if not the best. It makes Pixel 3 just the right smartphone for geeks as well as early adopters who are not yet set to go for high-end options like the Galaxy S9 or iPhone S9.
